Decarbonising the energy sector is central to achieving both the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement. NDCs are critical to driving clear, actionable energy sector commitments that steer countries toward a sustainable and inclusive energy transition that is aligned with their climate and development goals, as well as global energy transition goals.
Session objectives:
- Discuss challenges and opportunities in setting clear, quantifiable targets for renewable energy, energy efficiency, and fossil fuel transition in NDCs, in response to the first Global Stocktake’s call to action on energy system decarbonization.
- Explore the enabling environment, policy frameworks, and governance structures needed to raise and meet ambition in NDCs consistent with Global Stocktake goals.
- Identify strategies to accelerate implementation and scale up investment—drawing on country experiences and best practices in mobilizing private sector finance, through concessional finance, de-risking instruments, project pipeline development, and innovation.
- Facilitate peer learning and collaboration on reflecting the Global Stocktake decision’s energy goals in NDCs and implementing them at national level, sharing scalable lessons and challenges.
