As countries advance the design and implementation of their Long-Term Low-Emission Development Strategies (LT-LEDS) and update their NDCs ahead of COP30, questions arise around how to ensure coherence between long-term objectives and near-term actions. With NDCs approaching the timeline set out in many countries’ LTS, aligning these two instruments becomes even more critical to ensure effective climate action and investment to 2035 respond to the scale and type of measures required to avoid carbon lock-in and put in place essential steppingstones to meet global net zero GHG emission by 2050 and socio-economic objectives.
This session will explore approaches to ensure alignment between NDCs and LTS, with a focus on enhancing readiness for implementation and fostering policy and investment coherence. Drawing from country experiences and practical tools, the session will examine best practices that can help translate long-term goals into actionable, near-term strategies that are both feasible and finance-ready, addressing the challenges of time-bound alignment and supporting climate ambition.
