The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) engages in the conference organisation through two of its programmes: The Support Project for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement (SPA) and NDC Assist. The Support Project for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement (SPA) works at the interface between German international climate policy and development cooperation.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU), the project provides platforms and support for implementing four global NDC and transparency initiatives: the IKI NDC Support Cluster, the NDC Partnership, the Partnership on Transparency in the Paris Agreement and the LEDS-GP.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), NDC Assist supports members of the NDC Partnership in implementing their NDCs in line with their sustainable development objectives – currently six countries and two regional initiatives. To achieve this, the project assists the mainstreaming of NDCs into long-term processes.

Furthermore, NDC Assist facilitates dialogue between stakeholders at the national, regional and global level to share lessons and best practices and jointly work on solutions that can effect transformative change in the partner countries.
